Open Innovation Challenge by Group Production
The automotive industry is facing unprecedented changes with such things as digitalization, autonomous vehicles, climate change, and geopolitical changes. All of these factors have a big impact on the future of production and logistics. Accordingly, the customers are changing and demand other goods and services. In addition to impacting production practices, these changes impact value creation in the automotive industry. Companies move to create value not just with the vehicles they sell but with all aspects of their expertise.
Volkswagen seeks to address these changes in the heart of core automotive manufacturing and production. Therefore, an Open Innovation Challenge was launched to receive new and innovative business models ideas for production-related areas in the future. More specifically, Volkswagen asked solvers to propose and present new and innovative business models that addressed the following topics:
- utilization of logistics or material and data flow know-how in new contexts
- generation or processing of valuable base resources
- sharing of production capacity, expertise and know-how
The most important evaluation criteria were: desirability, feasibility and viability.
552 creative minds from 80 countries participated with 132 ideas being submitted. After an internal evaluation three winning ideas were selected.
